Unshakeable Faith: Trusting God When Life Gets Scary

Ever heard of the three men who faced a fiery furnace because they refused to bow down to a golden idol? Their story in the book of Daniel is incredibly inspirational for us believers. They were about to face a dire situation, yet they dropped a line that still gives us chills: "but even if He does not..." They were all in, trusting God, even when things were looking uncertain and their lives were on the line.

Daniel 3:17-18

"If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”

So, this story begs the question: Can we have that kind of confidence in God, even if our lives aren't literally in danger? In our world today, we might not be dealing with fiery furnaces, but there's no shortage of situations that make us feel scared and unsafe. How can we dial up our faith and trust in God in times like these?

Trusting God When Things Get Scary:

One of the coolest things about those three friends is how they were ready to trust God's plan, no matter what. It's not just about getting what we want; it's about understanding that God's plan is way bigger and better than our own.

Another scripture that reminds us to trust God, even in the face of death, is the 23rd Psalm. Psalm 23:4: "Even though I walk through the darkest valley [the valley of the shadow of death], I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me." This verse reminds us that God will never leave us, even [especially] when we're deep in a tough situation. Just like the three men who faced the furnace, we're not alone in our trials.

Boosting Your Faith and Confidence:

1. Pray: Spend time talking to God, meditating, and just being in His presence. It's like a faith recharge.

2. Bible Time: Dive into the Bible regularly. It's a treasure trove of wisdom and comfort.

3. Build Community: Join a faith community or church where you can find support, cheerleaders, and some accountability.

4. Attitude of Gratitude: Count your blessings and say thank you for the good stuff. It's a game-changer when it comes to shifting your focus from fear to faith.

5. Share the Love: Spread kindness to others. It's a hands-on way to show your faith and trust in God's goodness.

6. Let Go and Let God: Stop trying to micromanage everything in your life. Surrender to God's plan and trust that He's got it covered, even if it doesn't match your to-do list. "God's best for me doesn't always = my plan."

The faith of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the face of a fiery furnace challenges us to think about our own trust in God, especially when life gets scary. While our challenges might not be quite as extreme, our world can get pretty unsettling. By taking cues from their story and working on our faith with some practical steps, we can build a stronger trust in God, even when life gets tough. Remember, faith isn't about avoiding life's storms; it's about finding peace and strength right in the middle of them.
